Sunaad Overview

 

  • Sunaad School for the Hearing Impaired was started in 1988 to cater to the needs of Hearing Impaired Children.
  • The school follows oral method and State government Syllabus and education is imparted in Kannada and English medium.
  • The Bangalore Speech and Hearing Trust runs the school among others.
  • Children with hearing impairment from the age of 4 years are admitted in Sunaad School.
  • 30 well-trained and experienced staff including 8 teachers with B.Ed(HI) and 11 teachers with DSE(HI) qualifications. PT and Craft teachers have respective qualification. All teachers have had several years of teaching experience in special schools.
  • Education is given completely free of cost. Also, free transport facility is provided for pick and drop on point to point basis.
  • The school has achieved 100% result for the past four consecutive years in SSLC Examination.
  • At present there are about 174 students studying from preschool to 10th
  • As majority of the children studying in our school belong to below poverty line , many organizations like Lions Club, Rotary Club etc provide School books, milk, etc
  • Sunaad School get Child Centric Grant-in-aid from Government of Karnataka.
  • Education is totally free for Sunaad School students including Speech and Hearing evaluation, Speech Therapy, Hearing Aid repair, Travel and uniform
  • All the students are provided with Mid-day meals.
  • Hearing aids, spares etc are provided free of cost to the deserving children through Smt. K. S. Bramarambha and Dr. K. S. Sriram Endowment, Lions Club of Bangalore East, Starkey foundation and Members of Lions Club of Bangalore East.
  • S. Ramachandran has instituted Merit Scholarship to the meritorious student of the school.
  • Classrooms are smart class rooms with laptop and LED Monitors donated by Cognizant foundation which can also help to overcome the limitations caused due to the manual preparations of the TLMs. All classrooms have internet connectivity
  • The Visual resources such as PPT, DVDs, and computer programs in the classrooms make education more effective.

  • The recommended teacher to child ratio is 1:10 in a special school.
  • The school has a well-equipped library with several books aimed at developing children’s language & reading skills.
  • Science laboratory is equipped with all the materials prescribed by state board syllabus. Computer training is also provided for children from class 2 onwards.
  • Classrooms are equipped with smart TV, laptops, desktops & tablets.
Co-curricular activities:
  • Students are encouraged to participate in various activities and inter-school competitions and our students have won many prizes.
  • In addition, annual visits to different places of historical interest are planned for the children, with the main aim of exposing them to different experiences and enriching their learning and communication skills.
