Alumni talk 2017
Several lectures and talks have been organized by alumni of the institute for the benefit of the students. The first such program was organized by the EC member and alumna Ms. Soumya Menon on the 26th of April 2017. Dr. Dimity Dorman, from Hear and Say, Australia spoke on the topic “Special skills on Auditory Verbal Therapy”. The program was attended by external participants from various clinics and hospitals, in addition to in-house staff and students
The second talk was delivered by the president of the Alumni association, Ms. Anakhi Ghosh on the 4th of May 2017 on the topic “The Scope of Practice for Audiologist and SLP in Private Hospital Set Up”. It was attended by the Graduating Postgraduate students.
In addition, we have also encouraged the Alumni members to be part of the National workshop on “Hearing instruments: An update” from 9th to 11th March 2017, organized at the institute and few served as resource persons.
The year 2018 saw various alumni from the Hearing Aid companies sharing their inputs regarding the latest developments in the amplification industry. Mr. Nagarjun from Widex India Pvt Ltd spoke about “Data Logging in Hearing Aids” to 3rd year undergraduate and 1st and 2nd year postgraduate students. Mr. Bharathi Kannan carried out a session, demonstrating the procedure to take ear impressions for Completely-In-the-Canal hearing aids.
The following year, our very distinguished alumni Ms. Roshni Pillai and Mr. Anurag Kumar interacted with undergraduate and postgraduate students to brief them about career opportunities in their respective chosen specialties. This provided an opportunity for the students to get a perspective about their prospects in the field thanks to this.
In 2020, the Alumni Association conducted an orientation program for the graduating postgraduate students titled “An Insight into the future: Alumni Reflection” on 14th March 2020. Prominent alumni Mr. Nagarjun, Ms. Soumya, Mr. Avinash Krishnamurthy, Ms. Haveela Jayakumar and Mr. Vidyasagar addressed the students.
A series of Webinars was organized for faculty, staff and students in collaboration with Alumni Association and IQAC of the institute. Resource persons were experts in the field and alumni.
In 2022, Dr. Sudhin Karuppali, Alumnus, undergraduate batch of 2007 and postgraduate batch of 2009, delivered a talk on “Best Practices for students of Speech and Hearing”, on 5th May. The talk was attended by both undergraduate and postgraduate students along with faculty. It focused on what is expected from a student to excel in clinics, academics and research. As per the feedback received, the talk inspired the students to become better professionals in future and how a good education is a key to success. Dr. Sudhin also highlighted the skills and qualities required to achieve the goals.
