Founder

Dr. S. R. Chandrasekhar is a reputed E.N.T. surgeon in Bangalore. Born on 5th October 1930 in Mysore, he completed his early education in Bangalore and obtained his medical degree from Madras Medical College in 1956. He later proceeded to England for higher studies and become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 1960, with specialization in E.N.T. He returned to India in 1961 and served as Professor and HOD of ENT, in Hubli Medical College, Bangalore Medical College and St John's Medical college.

In 1974, in his capacity as President of Lions Club of Bangalore East, he organized a Speech & Hearing Camp, at St. Martha's Hall, Bangalore. The camp was an eye-opener as it brought to his attention the large percentage of population, which had speech and hearing problems. It also highlighted the dire need for speech and hearing services in Bangalore. This motivated the young doctor to start an Institute on Hennur Road in Bangalore, in 1977. The Institute has been his 'brain child' since its inception and he has nurtured the Institute to its present pre-eminent position with vision, single-minded devotion and commitment.

In grateful recognition of the tremendous efforts put in by Dr. S. R. Chandrasekhar in founding and developing the Institute for over two decades, the Trustees resolved to name the Institute after Dr. S. R. Chandrasekhar and it now bears the name-

Dr. S. R. Chandrasekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing

The State Government of Karnataka has bestowed upon Dr. S.R. Chandrasekhar the Rajyotsava award in 1983, in appreciation of the services rendered by him to promote the welfare and rehabilitation of those having speech and hearing disorders.
